Payment Policy

Last updated 5 September 2026

This Payment Policy governs the payment services LingoXP provides to its Members. It operates alongside the Terms of Service. Current fees and minimum amounts are shown on the platform at the point they apply.

1. Definitions

Lesson Fee. The amount a Tutor charges for a lesson. Tutors set their own rates; LingoXP does not set them.

Processing Fee. An amount LingoXP adds to card payments to cover the cost of processing them. It is displayed before payment is made.

Platform Fee.The percentage LingoXP retains from each lesson, deducted from the Tutor's earnings.

Wallet Credit.A balance held in a Member's LingoXP account. It may be spent on lessons on the platform and holds no value outside it.

Payout. The transfer of a Tutor's earnings from their LingoXP balance to their own bank account.

2. Lesson Purchases

When a Student books a lesson and the Tutor confirms it, the Student and Tutor enter into an agreement under which the Student pays for the lesson and the Tutor delivers it.

Lessons may be paid for in two ways.

By card. The Student pays the Lesson Fee plus a Processing Fee at checkout. Card payments are processed by Stripe. LingoXP does not see or store card details.

From Wallet Credit. A Student may top up their wallet and pay for lessons from that balance. No Processing Fee is charged on lessons paid entirely from Wallet Credit.

3. Trial Lessons

Every Tutor offers a short introductory lesson at a discounted rate. A Student may take one trial lesson per Tutor. Trials are optional, and a Student may book a full lesson without taking one. Where a trial is cancelled under the terms of section 5, the Student may book a further trial with that Tutor.

4. Currency and Exchange Rates

All prices are displayed and charged in US dollars. Where a Member's card is denominated in another currency, the issuing bank sets the exchange rate and may apply its own charges. LingoXP does not control those rates or charges and is not responsible for currency fluctuations.

5. Cancellations and Refunds

More than 24 hours before the lesson.A Student may cancel without the Tutor's approval. The full amount paid, including the Processing Fee, is returned to the Student's wallet as Wallet Credit. The Tutor is notified.

Within 24 hours of the lesson. The lesson cannot be cancelled and the payment is due to the Tutor. Students are encouraged to contact their Tutor directly if circumstances change.

Refunds are issued as Wallet Credit and are not returned to the original payment method. Wallet Credit may be spent with any Tutor on the platform.

6. Wallet Credit

Top-ups are final. Once a Member has added Wallet Credit, that payment is not refundable to the original payment method. The credit remains available to spend on lessons.

Expiry. Wallet Credit expires after 12 months of account inactivity. Any activity on the account extends that period by a further 12 months. Members whose credit has expired may contact LingoXP to request reinstatement.

Wallet Credit is not a bank deposit. LingoXP is not a bank. Wallet Credit is a payment feature rather than a banking service, and amounts held in Student or Tutor wallets are not insured deposits. LingoXP acts as agent and custodian in respect of those amounts, and not as trustee or fiduciary.

7. Tutor Earnings and Payouts

A Tutor's earnings are credited to their LingoXP balance once a lesson is complete. LingoXP retains a Platform Fee of 15% from each lesson; the balance shown to a Tutor is the amount net of that fee.

Minimum withdrawal. Payouts are subject to a minimum withdrawal amount, displayed on the payout screen. Payouts are sent via Wise to the bank details the Tutor provides.

Transfer charges.LingoXP does not charge a fee to withdraw. Wise and receiving banks may apply their own fees and exchange rates, which are outside LingoXP's control.

Accuracy of details. Tutors are responsible for the accuracy of the bank details they provide. LingoXP cannot recover a payout sent to incorrect details.

Inactive balances. Unwithdrawn Tutor balances are subject to the same 12-month inactivity and expiry terms as Wallet Credit under section 6.

Tax. Tutors are responsible for their own tax obligations on income earned through LingoXP.

8. Withholding of Payouts

Where LingoXP determines that a Tutor's conduct has resulted in, or is likely to result in, a significant number of disputes, refunds, or claims from Students, LingoXP may delay or suspend payouts from that Tutor's balance pending investigation.

9. Erroneous Transactions and Chargebacks

Where a duplicate or erroneous transaction occurs, LingoXP may reverse it, deduct it from future payouts, or seek repayment by any other lawful means.

Disputing a legitimate charge with a card issuer rather than contacting LingoXP constitutes chargeback fraud. It is prohibited by payment providers and by LingoXP. Where it is identified, the account may be suspended and any remaining Wallet Credit withheld. Members who believe a charge is incorrect should contact LingoXP first, so that genuine errors can be corrected directly.

10. Security and Transaction Limits

LingoXP may impose limits on transaction size, frequency, or cumulative value where it considers this necessary to prevent fraud, and may void transactions found to be fraudulent.

11. Dispute Resolution

Where a Student and Tutor disagree about a lesson, they are encouraged to resolve the matter directly. Where they cannot, either party may contact LingoXP, which may request messages or other records relating to the dispute. LingoXP will assess the matter impartially, and its determination is final. Where appropriate, LingoXP may issue Wallet Credit, reverse a transaction, or determine which party bears any fees arising.

12. Member Obligations

Members agree to comply with all laws applicable to them in connection with their use of the payment services, and to register only payment methods they own or are authorised to use. Members must not use the platform for money laundering, fraud, or any other unlawful purpose.

13. Amendments to this Policy

LingoXP may update this Payment Policy from time to time. Where a change is material, notice will be given in advance. Continued use of the platform after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
